MULTICAST-A MULTIdisCiplinary Approach to prediction and treatment of SuicidaliTy

Psychology

MULTICAST sets out to examine predictors and develop novel models for suicidal ideation (SI) in three subsequent subprojects. Our research group will make contributions to the project by focusing particularly on the following aspects:

  1. In PREDICT, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA) will be employed for sampling participants’ experiences on key psychological variables related to SI. EMA allow the collection of such variables in real-time and real-world settings, a huge advantage over traditional paper-pencil-assessments in a clinical context.

  2. In EXPERIMENT, we will investigate key processes associated with SI in the lab. Based on what we will learn from PREDICT, we will include stakeholders' input to further improve our in-house developed app. Also, we will test the effects of manipulating self-efficacy on SI, a known protective factor.

  3. In TREAT, we will use the experiences gained in the previous subprojects to develop prototypical smartphone-based intervention modules targeting key mechanisms of SI. These modules will be delivered as Ecological Momentary Interventions (EMI).
